BERTRAND LOUBE

BERTRAND LOUBE

A graduate of ESAG Penninghen art school, Bertrand Loubé switched to fashion, luxury and advertising. He worked as an art director for Wolkoff and Arnodin, Marithé & François Girbaud, collaborated with Albert Elbaz on his Haute Couture collection in 2000, then began the Air Paris Agency. Inspired by art, typography, graphics and more particularly by the avant-garde movements - Cubism, Italian futurists and Russian constructivism, he composed abstract and typographic collages. In August, 2017, he decided to dedicate himself to his passion by presenting his artwork at an exhibition in La Rochelle. A close collaborator of agnès b. saw his work, presented it to agnès b. who liked it and decided to print his small graphic creations in on dresses and T-shirts in her Summer 2018 collection.

IKON

IKON

Born on the planet Aqua in 1970, lives and works in Paris. Ikon emerged from the “Surf culture” in which he has moved ever since his teenage years – it was by scouring the world in search of the best surfing waves that he began to paint the surf boards of local manufacturers. Returning to Paris at the age of 24, he decided to become a self-taught artist and devote himself to art. From acrylic painting to sculpture, he would draw his inspiration from “street culture” and mass culture (strip cartoons, film cartoons, cinema). His symbolic character “Beasty Boy” is evidence of this, produced in the form of an icon: from archetypal character to super-hero, via Pop art imagery. Ikon uses humour to communicate more serious messages, and his work invites us to re-connect with our childhood heroes in a very colourful setting.

LEK AND SOWHAT

LEK AND SOWHAT

It was in the mid-1980s that Lek witnessed the explosion of graffiti on the walls of Paris, and more particularly on the walls of his own Stalingrad district of the city. French graffiti artist Sowat first began to paint on railroads, highways and areas of wastelands in Marseilles, France. In 2009, their meeting signaled the beginning of long and fruitful collaborations as the DMV Crew, including their participation in the contemporary drawing fair Drawing Now, in Tour Paris 13, and in a group show exhibition at Galerie du Jour agnès b. in 2013 with Jonone. In April 2015, Sowat and Lek painted the agnès b. men's shop in London and exhibited at the agnès b. gallery in Hong Kong.

L'ATLAS

LATLAST

L’Atlas made his debut by engraving his name in the wood of his school desk, getting hundreds of lines to copy as a punishment : probably an unexpected occasion for him to develop his taste for calligraphy…His first experience of graffiti was made in Paris (place de la Nation) in 1991: his mother was shortly after invited to a free visit to the police station. But it did not make him give up his violent desire to express his freedom. A number of trips around the world and especially to the ancient and labyrinthine cities of Middle East ( Cairo, Istanbul, Damas, Alep) where he met several calligraphy masters, brought him a new vision of graffiti and convinced him to “work against the blindness of tradition and resist against mercantilism and modern urbanism”. He now concentrates on drawing labyrinths: some in large format that he sticks on advertising billboards, others that he paints directly on the ground, as to help pedestrians to find their way, “both in their journey and in their mind”.

JONONE

JONONE

Born in 1963, JonOne grew up in Harlem, New York. Painter, graffiti artist, sculptor, he began his career during the 70s by writing his name on walls and subways, which according to him, are "museums which cross the city." He moved to Paris at the beginning of the 80s, where he began to work on movement, color, freedom of his line, between abstract art and street spirit, revealing his imagination and his optimistic vision of our society. He met agnès b. and first showed his work at the Galerie du Jour 1989. Their friendship gave rise to numerous collaborations: performances, painting murals and clothing, including a T-shirt sold to benefit the Foundation Abbé Pierre. Recognized by galleries and the art market, he is one of main characters of today’s international street art scene.
